| When I arrived to Cheranastico I was stunned at the beetle investations in the virgin forest. The cause is two fold. 1) Global warning is cutting into the rainy season as the summers blow hot dry wind now and ten years ago brought rain nearly daily. 2) This is remote country and illegal logging is a serious issue. The illegal logging activities is feed by uncontrolled wildfires being lite and killing sections of forest of course the free flowing sap from the fire damaged trees is a dinner bell ringing 24/7 and with no serious management services available to the region the pine beetles are having a hay day. | |
